abstract⁄The following is an excerpt from my book Wired for War The Robotics Revolution and Conflict in the 21st Century Penguin, 2009. This chapter explores how the world of science fiction actually helps to shape the very real humanbuilt environment around us. Besides being one of my favorite parts of the book to research and write, I thought it a particularly fun fit for the ACADIA audience, as it takes us back to the question of what originally inspires us.
