abstract⁄Since October 2000 the authors have operated a laboratory, the Shared Transatlantic Augmented Reality System STARS, for exploring telepresence in the domestic environment. The authors, an artist and an architect, are conducting a series of experiments to test their hypotheses concerning mixed reality and supportive environments. This paper describes these hypotheses, the purpose and construction of the lab, and preliminary results from the ongoing collaboration.
