abstract⁄This paper introduces the notion that topdown and bottomup design processes should be considered as a continuum, and describes the development of a springbased simulation modelling system that operates as a means to navigate this continuum in the production of complex, openended design spaces. A built case study project demonstrates the underlying modeling concepts and methodology.
